Because traveling is one of my favorite things to do and I have a pretty good amount of experience with it, I decided to put together my travel bag essentials. I have used this black Vera Bradley bag as my travel bag and school bag (occasionally) for the last couple of years. It is so sturdy and can hold so much stuff which is such a big plus because I have a lot of stuff! I have been on boats, planes, trains and many car rides (for those who do not know my family, we are the ultimate road-trip family...we have driven to every U.S. state except for Hawaii as we had to fly to that one, of course!) and on each of those trips I carry with me these same items!
First you must find a good size bag, not too small, but also not too big! Like I said I have this black Vera Bradley bag that I have been using and is not sold in stores anymore, but I will link a similar one here. I really love this bag too because it has a laptop sleeve, making is safe and easy to travel with your laptop. On planes, you are normally allotted one handheld bag (purse, laptop bag, backpack, etc.) and then one actual carry-on bag to hold clothes and what not. I use this black bag as my "purse" even though I store my real purse inside of it so that I can carry on as much as possible, avoiding checked bag fees. Yuck!
Next are my electronics. I can not go anywhere without my iPhone. I always make sure to pack my phone along with its charger because you never know when you will need an extra charge and need to get to a charger ASAP. I also bring my laptop, I have the Dell windows XPS Ultrabook. It is such a great computer and it turns into a tablet as well making it really easy to use in tight spaces (plane seats, car seats, train seats, etc.) I also bring along my iPad for reading purposes only. I like to buy books on an iPad because for 1. they are much cheaper than buying them in stores and for 2. an iPad is much easier to pack than a whole set of books. And last, my camera is a must-have! I have the Canon EOS ti5 and I love it! Along with each of my electronic devices, I bring their chargers and protective cases.
Inside of my bigger travel bag, I like to bring an actual normal size purse that I use everyday during my trip. Right now I am using this Nine West bag in blush pink because that is my favorite color right now and this bag is just so cute. Inside of my purse is where I keep travel essentials like money, debit/credit cards, passport if needed, plane/train boarding passes, my keys, you know important things like those.
You cannot carry a travel bag without snacks and a water bottle! If you are like me, you get hungry at the most random times and I hate paying tons of money for airport food or fast food so I just like to bring my own snacks. My cravings change all the time, but you can never go wrong with a protein bar and a water bottle. Along with food items, I always have gum.
Other extra things I have in my travel bag at all times are a pair of sunglasses, my real glasses (if I am not already wearing them, which I usually am) some headphones for listening to music and watching videos and some lip balm. I also like to pack a few first-aid type things just in case...you never know!
So there you have it, these are my traveling essentials and I always have each of them no matter where I am traveling to and what type of transportation I am taking to get there! I am headed to New York in a few days so I will be packing my travel bag very soon, yay!! xo
